1 The. flax-mill of the Toogopd: Estate at Longbush'.is 'to .'close, down during tho, next 1 three weeks or a, month/ when from thirty to thirty-fivo hands 'will, be, thrown;.out; of: om-. ploymont. The cause is tho present low price of the 4tr® (writes our /Wairarapa correspondent), and the'high rates of wages, whioh can-, not be altered except, with the consent of- the •.workers themselves. The mill may, commence work again next year for a small amount-of-cutting; but it is not .very probable. Much, however, willdepoiid on the prices ruling for tho fibre:. Our correspondent is also informed that fully - twenty ' Manawatu flax-mills .will be closed down during;the next.-.week.
