BOROtJGH COUNCIL MEETING. Tho. fortnightly meeting of tho Borough .Council' was hold on Monday night in the .Council Chamber. Tho correspondence dealt with was not of a nature that would bo of general interest. Of the other business attended to thoro was not'a great' deal, It /was decided to sell the maps of;tho borough, which' had, just been -drawn, at ss. each. Being the mid-monthly meeting, few accounts were passed for payment, the total amounting to only £9 7s. Gd. 1 ■ Considerable' discussion ,took place with regard to tho Dairy < School, and a motion-, moved by' tho Mayor, was carried a3 follows:—''That this Council place on . record its. sincero regr«t that the Government has not seen its way clear to establish the Dairy School atLovin,. and record its cmphatic conviction that tho reasons advanced by the Ministry for passiiy the Levin sito aro • neither weighty nor convincing, it having boon stated on several occasions that tho ! necessary accommodation for;students.vould bo provided-by,.spoolli-ters at Lovin, should; the necessity, arise. : On spoaking -to tho motion, the Mayor. •Mr. 8.. R. Gardener, stated that it was his. intention .to get several of thj> leading: poop e of the district together on Thursday, and arrange for. a .mass meeting to be held on Saturday . - ... •'■ . •'
On the motion of Councillor Hanldns, it was decided that, the siim.of £50 bo granS v] to tho Miyorfor services. rendered during his term of office/: and that tho Council desired to express thanks to tho, Mayor .for the extra amount of time he has devoted to the'affairs of the bor»ugh. ; ' The mover, and other Councillors, spoke in eulotisiic terms of the_eo6d work done fcr tho Mayor.;' Councillor Ha-nkins further said that he was very sorry that tho Council hod not been able'to seo its way cloar to >raat him a larger amount. Tho Mayor thanksd tho Councillors amidst applause. ' ■ ' Discussion took place regarding tho Gasworks sito,- as several citizens had verhiUy protested against one of tho sites offered.
