OPERdI .HOUSE. That highly sensational drama, " Tho Adventuress," which has proved so popular; in Wellington, was again staged at tho Opera House last night by Mr. Edwin Geacli's Premier Dramatic. Company, and was received with enthusiasm.by a,well-filled auditorium. "The Adventuress," will be'repeated to-night,.'and will bo replaced to-morrow night by. "The. Power of tho Cross." THEATRE ROYAL. Fuller's vaudeville artists repeated with great success last night,'- tho programme which they gave on Saturday. Fred Graham and Nellie Dent in the '.bright little comedietta, composed by the ; former, mado themselves even greater favourites than ever. Hugh Lloyd won enthusiastic plaudits by his' remarkable feats ;on the slack rope. Vaudo and Varna made a popular-first appearand! -with somo capital fooling, in the'shape-of typical witticisms, songs, and a realistic imitation of a phonograph. MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.'" " A concert'in connection With. the.Missions, to Seamen will bo given to-morrow by Mipses Boyd and Dement. This admirable institution greatly requires a new organ, as the present instrument' has the dry rot in it. 'The concert is in. aid of the now oraan fund; All .who attend the concort are asked to bring some gift,- cither in kind or money. ■■ v • ' SAILORS' REST. . ; V Mr. Parata gave a splendid entertainment at tho' "Rest'' last night', before a' crowded audience, of - sailors;- ..Ho : was assisted by the following Mrs. Reit'a Weka', who sang several Maori sonjjs; Misses Toohill, Cimino, Asher, and Reika; Master Peter Cimino, Messi-6. C. Gamble, Harry Parata; Tinney, Fred' jeika, Fletcher, Dan Toohill,' Cuthbert,-Ware Waitai,-; and .Fred Lucas. Each item was 'Most. thoroughly enjoyed, and at the .close a vote of thanks was proposed by the superintendent; Extra thanks was accordcd Mrs. Reita Weka, who had so materially assisted Mr. Parata. in making the entertainment such a "success.- Tho' entertainment closed with a Maori haka. Saturday, had a repetition of their-'Poster' and" ; Fancy Dress Carnival, and it. was exceptionally well attended. Arrangements , are well in hand for the ccncert which is to bo held in' tho Town Hall on Friday, in aid of the fund for procuring *a lioness for the. Newtown Park :Zoo. The Mayor, has intimated that he will make a speech at tho opening of tho concert. A /number of leading amateur and professional l musicians have promised to assist, and everything is'in' thorough.working order, in spite of tho short notice on which arrangements-have been made; Tho musical items will be under the direction .°* Mr. Horace Hunt. .The'programme will bo publislibd as soon as possible. \ " A rather nice point was made concerning the Anglo-Japanese 'Alliance by' Dr. Don at tho meeting of the School. Water flowed freely (adds a Northern exchange) and a fqrco pump was attached .and now", a jot. of water can be thrown over tho owner's building. Tho proud well-sinker : describes the modus operandi as follows:—A 3-inch iron .pipo, perforated at one ond, was procured. Tho perforation was plugged with a piece of hardwood, which was pointed, and the pipe driven to the depth mentioned. Thon a rod was placed inside the pips, and the plug knocked out. A pump was lixed at tho top of tho pipe and a plentiful supply of good water has since boon obtained. Tho wholo' cost did not oxoeed 30s.
