M'llwaino. pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting R. Richardson on January 23. Evidorico was givon that tho assault originated in a dispute over a boundary fenco. Richardson accused tho - prisoner of cutting tho fence, and it was allowed that the lattor struck him with a stick, inflicting a wound on his head and breaking his wrist. Accused, on oatti, said there had been continual friction over tho fence, and Richardson was a troublesomo neighbour, and continually having disputes with various peoplo. Whon the presont disturbance took place ho threatened to shoot accused and to knock hia brains eut with a bammer, but accused cot in first. ' C. Iter«lle, ' residing ten years in' tha district,, -said, accused was of a quiet, r ((tiring disposition, and a good neighbour. He eould not say the same for til* presecutor. A verdict of not guilty was returned.
