Mr.' Edmund Cowan,, journalist, died in Cliristchurch rHospitalon;, Thursday night last of acute pneumonia. Tho Jato Mr. Cowan, was born at .Thames, Auckland, educated at Napier, and was at various times connected with, the literary staffs of a: number of Now Zealand and Australian papers; In his youth deceased was a prominent figure ■in Napier, rowing, amateur athletic, and football circles, and earned a wide ; reputation as a sporting writer under, tho pen'riamo of " Buff and Black."
