;;; . The Hutt District School Committee held its usual monthly- meeting last, night, When tho ' ' accounts in connection with the recent school picnic wero .passed. Votes. of thanks -were passed 'to all those who so ably assisted to make the picnic; a.success. It was decided.to procure a honours board to record the win-' ners of scholarships' during the existence of : •the school. .-.jThe; election :of committee. for the ensuing year will take place next, month, . aid" as a-result of. the present-interest in school matters in the Hutt district, a spirited' , contest is expected.: ' . -, '. What looked like a-possible serious accident was • only narrowly averted by the proverbial luck' which, seems to attend certain, people's ■ actions.- It was on the Hutt- Bridge, when '.a stream, of traffio. occupied the greater part of the roadway, when a 'bus, fully loaded. with passengers, was driven at a dash through the centre of the, traffic, only escaping,- a .collision,' by a few inches. Had the vehicles touched there would have been-a serious accident to chronicle... ... . The recent rains-have altered the appearance of tho Hutt Valley considerably, audi : what where, a few days ago were bare parched fields and' thirsty-looking trees,.:are how a .. pleasant sight to. man and beast. ~ Tho grass in - making ia rapid recovery, and there should be no. shortage of food for stock in the coming ■ '.winter. .■' . ',- ' Some ' time back the Government promised to erect a new Courthouse, to meet tho very • :•! pressing needs of the district, and ; a sum was put on the Estimates, but there tho matter stands. Tho inconvenience to the-representa-tives of tho legal profession has; been \ freely commented on for some time past. l
