There are many rumours regarding strike developments, but both sides bro extremely reticent. : At a meeting yesterday of a Board of Conciliation, consisting of representatives of the Inter-Stato Steamship Owners' Association, and Watersido Workers' Unions, it is understood tho men asked tho owners to bring pressuro to bear on a certain company by refusing it cargoes, but this was declined. Tho ooastal companies state that they are determined to continuo working with casual and other, hands. The men state that there is no fear of free labour being engaged to take the place' of tho strikers, and assert that if nonunionists or seamen aro. employed to work cargo tho Carters' and Seamen's Unions will join .tho striko. At present there are fifty-eight inter-State • and oversea vessel in port. Amongst thoso affected is tho Star of New Zealand: Sho may. bo ablo to finish loading to-day or tomorrow. . ■ ■Tho strike at Newcastle is causing delay to many vessels. It is reported that an effort is being made to induce the coallumpers to join. , f In other States developments are being anxiously awaited.
