(BY TBLEQnAPJI—SriOIAIi COEBSSrOSDINI.) Marton, March 12. ■ At a special meeting otthe Marton Borough Council to-day Air. Leslie Reynolds's report on', thft Marton. water supply schemes, wero read., Mr., Reynolds said that, aftor a careful inspection of the , whole district, he advised that, the only "suitable supply for Marton, within .measurable distance- was, obtainable from Rangitikoi river or from a probable supply' at... the - foot .'of the; terraco near' the;-Poreri-. stream. ..-.He- was - satisfied, that no; inland streams, or lake water within ! a radius of fifteen milesYoffored facilities, for a high pressuro water supply.-; With regard to boring for, artesian water, ho thought this question could bo left on one side, as it wasvory problematical whether water could bo obtained by this means 'in the district. If olitainablo at all, jit would be at a very con-, , siderable 'depth arid cost'. . The oidy metlwd of obtaining a pure supply from tho Rangitikoi river ,iyas by means of sinking on the river's flank, and constructing infiltration gnllorios i from- which- tlie water would bo pumped- to a. service reservoir of 250;000 gallons capacity, some 200 ft. above tho town. Tho estimated cost worked .out at £17,129. If tho Council did not adopt' this'scheme, ho , advised that tho present' reticulation bo renewed,-and that' residents depend upon rainwater for domestic pui-poscs, the reservoir supply to be used in the'ove'nt of fire. Ho recommended that tho present main be in-, creased. to nine inches, and all sido branches tosix'inches.' Tho cost- of this scheme was estimated at £7606. Tho Conncil'agreed that tho Rangitikoi river scheme was beyond its' 'means, and decided to ask' Mr. Reynolds for further particulars in connection with tho altornativo s'chemo. • ■ - - 7
