.■ '■ . -, ? March. 11. Tho news of tho death' of Mr.: William Broughton caused widespread • grief to-day. Tho deceased' had resided in this, district practically all his life, and- was a well-known figure, in the town.;- In the early days Mr.' Broughton was known to tho sporting public as a successful breedor of good racing stock. Somo years ago ho disposed of his stud'to tho late Mr._ G. - E. E-. Richardson, of Napier, and since .then .had not. re-entered the. racing , arena. Tho decoased was 1 a native of, Wanganni, being born in -1857, and was thus only fifty-one years of ;age. He was educated in tho old school at Pakowhia, 'and at Mr. Rea-rdon's'school in Napier. • Ho was married' to a daughter of tho. well--known.-Bay of Plenty chief Tuhoe, and leaves four sons and three daughters. -
