Lieutenant J. Timbrell, of Linwood, who was Beaten for championship honours by Hydo by ono point, is a native of Sydney, whero ho was born, thirty-eight years ago. Ho came to Now Zealand in May, 11)07, but previous to that time had an extensive shooting career in Australia. Ho commenced shooting in 18SS, and in the succeeding years won several trophies.. He attended tho New South Wales ltiflo Assbciation meeting in 1895 with somo success, arid then left tho Stato for Coolgardie,' where lie was unable to tako up his favourite "pastime for a period of seven years. Coming down to Perth later, ho was runner-up. twice for tho West Australian Championship,... and second onco .for tlio King's Prize, lie was a member_ of tho 1902 and 1905 teams which visited Victoria, and possesses sixteen shooting medals. Last year-he came over to Christchurch, whore ho was elected secretary for the Exhibition meeting, which he ran most successfully. Lieutenant Timbrell is, a married man, and his son, Bugler.Timbrell, was a competitor at the present .meeting. Tho Lieutonant is a total'abstainer, and does not smoke. SERGEANT EDWARDS. Sergeant Edwards, the young New South Welshman, who was third in the battle for tho championship, is a noted shot. He won the championship medal at llandwick in 1905, and .almost won the King's Prize, when lie tied with Mottom, the Qucenslander, and was beaten in the.count out. HoWas second for tho King's Prize in 1906, and in 1907 he was a member of the-Australian representative team in tho Empire Match. At Bisley he made a famous aggregate score of 100 at tho 200, 500, and 600 yards, topping the list of his team. The sergeant is one of the most cautious shots who has ever appeared at Trentham. SERGEANT CUING. Sergeant. J. W. Ching, of the Waiinca Rifles, who has won tho Rifle Challenge Cup for the highest individual score in the King's Prize, has had a successful career as a rifle shot. Ho commenced shooting in 1884 in Auckland, and was well up in tho championship records of several New Zealand Association meetings until lie won the championship in 1904. In that year ho was a member of the Bisley toam, where he won substantial money, and on tho journey home lie was runner-up in the Govornor-Gcneral's Match at'the Canadian Association meeting. Sergeant Ching has s|iot at Randwick with success, and, besides twico winning the South Island Championship, he has been twico runner-up. Ho has won the Nelson Championship six times in nine efforts, and twice he has been second. He possesses seven medals. Open to teams of five men from any Volunteer or Cadet Company, and from any Defenco Force' Rifle Club in Now Zealand or the Australian States. One target to each team. \ Time-limit: — 200 yards, 40 minutes; 500 yards, 45 minutes; 600 yards, 50 minutes.
