; A meeting of Cabinet was held yesterday afternoon, the - Ministers present being the Piemier (Sir Joseph Ward),- tho Hon. W. Hall-Jones; the Hon.- James Carroll, the Hon. J. M'Gowan, the Hon. Dr. Findlay, the Hon. J. A. Millar, ■ and tho Hon. 11. M'Nab.

j It .was j decided to invite tenders; for the erection of a police station at Newtown -(Wellington); This building is to bo erected on a section of land'lying back from Rintoul Street, approached by a right-of-way. The "building will be of considerable sizo, . and will be erected in brick.

Tho sum of £2400 was authorised to bo expended, for the purchase of a further portion of tho township of Te Aroha. The Government is gradually acquiring this health rosort, as in the case of Rotorup.

. Tor general railway extensions , a sum of £30,000 was authorised.

■ In connection with ! tho decision of tin Cabinet to purohaso two launches under the Soa Fisheries Act Amondmont Act, tho provisions of tho Act aro that "Tho Minister may from time to time employ'such persons as ho considers necessary for tho purposo cf picking, oysters from any oyster fishery in tho North Island, and for the liko purpose may purchase or hire such boats and implements as may be considered necessary. "Tho Minister may cause tho oysters 30 pickcd to bo sold, and for that purposo may acquire such, promises as ho considers necessary." /■ .. ..
