Tbe-.towii lof Eiley twas disturbed yesterday .morning. by i.anialarmirig firo at tho parish (tfiuroh of;iSt.vOs\v.ildr-which;is in tho Early English and- 'Norman i stylo of architecture, ■and is ono ; of tho oldest and most interesting churches in Yorkshire. Tho damage, which is covered .--by-insurance, is estimated at about £1000, thevvahiable organ being- entirely destroyed.- A portion of the roof was ' also 'burnt through;, and, tho; interior suffered much from fire and water. The outbreak' was discovered about nine o'clock by a lady who' had gono to pla'co some •'flowers on a gravo, and saw .the glare of fire through the church windows. She instantly raised the alarm, and the Filey Eire Brigade, under Captain Gray,' assisted _by tho local police, worked, splendidly. Their efforts'were .successfully directed to preventing the spread of the firo to other parts of tho church, but'it was useless to endeavour to save the organ, which was already enveloped in flames;' and was entirely destroyed by cloven o'clock. When tho fires were lighted to .heat tho church for morning service everything was in order, and tho cause of tho outbreak cannot at present be definitely statcd.
