K-eid will most likely have the mount on-Irish Jjitte. y , Last Wednesday, while. -} inWariganui. 1 paid a visit to.Harry-' Jackson's 'scablo at 'layfoi'th, ■ and was taken to see Mr.. Moore's private training track on which Signer," Helen Portland, and' company do the major' portion of their, training • work;-- .Tho country round about Tayfortfcis. rather hilly, but a beautiful pieco of Ueyer;, ground was secured about , a mile from' the stable and a'splendid track a little more than.!' seven . 'furlongs in, circumference has been formed. Jackson has a plough gallop and-a!'grass track at his disposal, but as tho going on the latter must always be good . tno -ploughseems, superfluous. '
Tho appointments on the track leave nothing: to ne desired. .Thero is a building at one end which contains-several'dressing stalls and a rolling, shed, 'while'a small stand has also been'erected from which the gallops may be conveniently clocked. . Tho property is well-drained and has a water-supply for use in tho dry. weather. - Jackson runs -a few sheep there, and grows 'some feed for use in thj stable.;
Armistice, who went wrong after, the New Zealand Clip mooting-'in November .has. been in work again, for some time, aiid'was showing good lorm on the;tracks;"but a'couple of days before the W'ailganui' meeting she went sick-and -jvoiild. not eat at all well, so her : trainer thought it'would ?not- be advisable to start her, oh Thursday,-and she is.not likely to.-race. at tho :.'Sh'e is, however, quite, .sound- again and; it: will not be long bct'oro sho is racing. . ■' Tho Tasmar.iau'jockeys, Dunn and Jennings, wero granted licenses by tho Wanpnui Jockey Club,; and: will: be riding in the Dbmiriiori during, their'-'stay. ; Both these horsenien rido about 7st: 71b.
' Guiding' Step (Stepniak—Guiding Star) who *as thrown, out of. work; in November betauss lie was, growing, very .fast is not likely io be raced again this' season.'-.:. .
\ Tho St. Clements maro' Supplement' will )robably;bo racing at tho Nelson meeting loxt month, "after which sho will be taken on to tho West Coast.- Mr. S: E. Cooper, who jccentljr purchased Supplement from R. Barlow thinks tho company is too good for her n tho North Island. Up to the present 4ie has.jpnly won one raco and as she'does lot appear to bo able to stay very well she vill lequiro judicious -.placing even on tho . ft'est Coast. '.
Carissima tho half-sister, to' Armistice carded a lot of muscle at tho Wanganui mceting. Sho is a'find'big mare and as she looks » likely jumper sho may be tried at that department!. Jatcr .on. She is very quiet and docile, and is tho best - eater in Jackson's team. In fact she:carries this good, quality So far that sho has; to bo muzzled tho 'night before-a race meeting to prevent-'her. eating •her bedding. .•' ■ f ■'
