Orepuki-Waiau railway. > The position'is that' four miles havo been laid beyond Waihoaka at a'oost of £28,000, but. the Public Works Department, instead of ballasting this ,four miles so that the'lino can bo used for traffic, 1 • and return profit on- tho money, expended, ' aro waiting to do ballasting which wjll bo brought from a point at the end'of tho final section now being constructed. Not only has the- unballasted section' been lying idle for -twelve months, - but -six sawmills have to cart timber on a road parallel-to the railway irnU that could bo made, ready-for use in a few weeks. - -•-..'- TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.
