. ■■ -4 —-— OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL REPORT. Tho annual, report of the - Wellington Collego Old Boys', Association congratulates members on the. financial position of tho Association. The credit balande, as shown by the balance-sheet,is £81 18s. 3d., being balance in bank £31 A lßs. 3d., and reserve fund £50.-' The number of active' members, is now 771, thcro being 593 ordinary, members and 173 lifo members. The annual ball was held on June 13, and as usual, proved very successful. The annual dinner was held on May 21,; and, although t-ho number of members present was not large, it was very successful. The dinner was abandoned'the previous year through lack of support, but the - Committeo hopes' to soe 'this \function better attended than over,this year. After a hard struggle-to keep going, -the Social-Club has been wound up. . .This- vonturo resulted in a Joss to the Association of about '£140. The sale of furnitnro realised only £74.,,Th0 piano, and several pictures and ornaments presented by various mombcrs have been handod over, to the college. There are still some subscriptions outstanding, which tho Committco would like to receive as soon as possiblo. Tho-Cricket Club is iu a ycry good position just, at present, having an active membership of 51.. Tl)e senior eleven is- at present taking part in tho final for- the. Senior Championship. At Christmas a team visited Nelson, and ■ bad an v exceedingly sue-' cossful and enjoyable trip. It matches, and won.them all.' On January 22 a' team - journeyed to Mastertoii and. played a ,drawn-game with tho Ma:stcrton. Club. The annual matches with tho • college were again abandoned. The Football" Club had a fairly successful season, although-.'the - teams did' riot show lip as prominently in tho competition as in . previous- years., this being .chieflydue. to a number'of the oluor-players retiring .from active participation in tho game or leaving the city. This, however, - gave, the younger players-a chance, J and l this, year it is' oxpeetcd , tho, Club will' liavo' a highly, successful season. Tile membership is now about 70. • .' 1 ■:

At the Annual College Sports the Old BoysVrnce, 100 yds., was Von by H.' Dawson. A' trophy was presented : by the" College. The. usual donations of £5 ss. to the Collego Ground > Fund; and £2 to the Old' Boys' Mathematical Prizo were made... During .the-year Mr.-A. E; "Wilson, resigned his. position oh. the committee, and Mr. G. . EL P. Fitzgerald was appointed in his. place. On Octobor 11 a special meeting was .held, when th'e following resolution was; ppsed"(l) That tliis Association do'precate.s • any proposal or suggestion oil the part of the Governors of tlTe Wellington College and Girls' High School to lay down a rule'to prevent College teams j from engaging in. contests "with outside clubs or associations except in the case of tho annual collegiate tournament) and. is ■ of; opinion that the adoption of such a, rule would be. contrary to i the best-, interests; of the College, and tlie . boys, attending it;' 1- •• (2) That the Association should; endeavour to obtain- direct, representation on tlie Board'of Governors and directs the- conpiitteo . of the Association, to take all-stops that may be possiblo with a view to effecting- that object. (3) That a copy of this resolution bo forwarded to the- Board of Governors." Fund, but ho personal canvass has been'niade. Two large subscriptions have lately been ; received—ono of £50. from a well-wisher. "X," and a second £25 from Mr.' AV. !E. Bethuiie. - The actual amount.- collected -to date isi abivit : £400, so that £100 js still required to complete what tlioy set'out to collect, viz., £500, and many who, no doubt,, intend, and' wish' to assist have not yet subscribed. ' At the'"last annual general' meeting' the- incoming- committee was recommended to consider tho advisability of changing the badge of tho: Association.' A sub-committee , was set'up "for this purpose, with; the.jesult that a suitable badge has now- been decided on. ■ •
