THE BARGAINS BOUGHT AT SALES
' Thoso fearful and wonderful bargains wo got at tho sales (says an Australian writer) are being weighed in the balance, and in very many. instances are not to be found wanting. Rarely has there been a season in which so many tilings can bo depended on to "come in." Fortunately tho reign of tho brotelle, the kimono blouse and the pinafore todies is by no means done. 111-modi-fied'form all " these will be with: us, judging by recent importations, for months to come. Consequently any piece of material sufficient to make a skirt ,may practically make'a wliolo; costume. . - Take for instance a molo brown skirt. This, worn' with a cream laco blouse, supplemented with a pair of broad "trellis" bretelles in molo brown velvet, brings its. wearer well within the pale of fashion's smile.' Odd lengths of,chiffon used to line; piece lace of even the cheapest varieties makes tho construction of broad bands and panels for the trimming, of evening coats and gowns possible. Lengths of muslin' and print have a knack of accumulating. Oho ingenious woman this year has used up her muslins most successfully for short 'curtains, 'a bed-spread and a sot of cushion covlts. Prints aro best devoted to underskirts. Very smart is an underskirt of pink gingham, with black bordered frills. A figured print with brown .bordered frills is tho outcome of another re:mnant. The return of tho draped skirt has given .the buyers of soft materials, like nuns' veiling, delaine aiid ninon an excellent ichance. A useful hint is, given by one of the skirts most recently arrived from Paris'. ..This'skirt "is cleverly rucked over'the hips. .Tho tablier arrangement falls in a long point to tho, feet iii front. Another .overskirt only roaches to" the knees in front, and. falls in long graceful linos at the back, while something strongly suggestive of tho old. fashioned' fishwiro skirt is seen in yet another-model:
