The/duplication of tho railway , lino from Christchurch to llolleston has been proceeding now for' somo' considerable,' time, and most of the preparatory work has been'completed. The new work should properly bo called tho Addington-Rqllestoii duplication," as a double; lino has .existed between Heathcote station''and. Addingtoii, for some years. From'' Addingt'on to llolleston is* a distance of-some 124 miles. Tho'platelaying has not yet actually commenced,'but a large number of-; necessary / culverts • have been built; The, formation work 'is .practically completed, and many of. the hew station plattorms have been ', constructed. The intermediate stations between Addington and Rplleston will be what are technically described '' island stations," and the exist-, ing buildings will be replaced by new'ones built according to Government standards l arid designs., Already a largo number of men are finding eriiployment on the works, and others will be taken on during tho current week.
