POLICE CASES. (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) THEFT OF A BICYCLE. A seaman named Thomas Kelly was chargcd with the theft of a bicycle, value LI, the .property of Percy S. R. Brown. K-j. donee was given that the bicycle was loft outside tho Y.M.C.A. room by its owner, an insurance agent. On returning after an nbsenco of 10 minutes, the owner found that tho bicycle had disappeared. The police wore communicated with and Constable M : l.eod subsequently arrested accused 011 the Quoin s Wharf at about 5.15 p.m. Accused was pushing tho bicyclo along tho wharf, and, on being interrogated by the constablo,, stated thatju was an A.B. on the steamer'Kia Ora, and had brought the bicyclo from London. Sub--Bcquontly he said ho had bought the bicvoln in town, and later on, at the Police Station,

said tho_ machine had been given to him by n sailor on the Tokoinnni. Accused was ivmanded for sentence until Thursday to enable the police to make inquiries as to his character. UNLAWFULLY ON PREMISES. ' Mary Wilson, alias M'Girr, pleaded guilty to a charge of having been found at niglis without lawful excuse in a yard attached to the premises of William Milford, Wellington South. The police stated that accused was found in the yard at the back of the premises : n question at midnight on Monday. Sho wj-< under tho influence of liquor at the time, and had been wandering about tho streets of late. Accused asked the Court for another chance, to which His Worship replied, "I am afraid chances are thrown away on you. You will be convicted and sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour." MISCELLANEOUS CASES. .' Philip Shannon was remanded until Friday on a charge of having, on March 2, assaulted John Maurice Roberts. Accused is deaf, and tho adjournment was granted in order that the services of an interpreter might be obtained. Frederick Lyness, , for vagrancy, was further remanded until Friday in order to allow the Benevolent Trustees to consider his case. Thomas Scott was convicted of habitual drunkenness and committed to the Pakatoa Inebriates' Home for a period of ono year. Felix O'Connor, charged with' drunkenness, was remanded for a week for medical treatment.
