Mr. Henry Burling, 107 years of age, was amongst those present at tho opening of tho Waikanao post office yesterday. Mr. Burling, whose sturdy appearance arid, unbent shouldors do not betray his great age; walked about on the arm of his great-grandson. 'Living in the Waikanao district is a Maori wonian, whoso ago is 100 years.

Lieutenant-Colonel Hume; Inspector of the Prisons Department, returned to Wellington yestortlay. Mr. C. A. St. G. HallJones on .his visit to "Waikanao yesterday. Lieutenant C. B. Harton, senior subaltern of the Post and Telegraph Rifles, has been elected to the captaincy of the corps. Yesterday afternoon Mr. .G. W. Kepple, who is severing his connection with the Doiuinion postal service, was presented with ,i photographic group of tho officers of the mechanician's department. Mr.-Palmer, the chief mechanician, in making the presentation, expressed the good wishes of the staff for Mr. Kepple's future success 'in South America, where ho intends residing^ Rev. J.; R. Shore, M.A., who is'tooccupy St. John's pulpit on tho two following Sundays, is one of . the most promising qf the younger ministers of the Presbyterian Church. After a distinguished career as a, student-at Ofcago .University, he entered the Theological Callege in Dunedin, and on-tho completion of his studios there was called ' to a charge near Oamaru, whero he laboured for somo years.
