SENIOR BOARD SCHOLARSHIPS.
' AN IMPORTANT POINT, : At .yesterday's meeting of the Wellington' Education Board, an important.' point arose of- two applications; ono irom .Levin l ■and tho othev from Masterton, that holders of senior Board scholarships might he given an opportunity ■ of prosecuting their : studies at Victoria College. Under the regulations the scholarship, funds of tho Board; aro used' for junior and senior Board scholarships. Holders of these scholarships aro permitted' -to ..prosecute their studies' at secondary stitutions, but there is nothing in the regulation's which will allow a scholarship holder to study in other than a''secondary College. According to.. Mr. ■A. W. Hogg, M.P/, the holder of a junior scholarship in a .country district, who, later on'wins a senior scholarship, finds that- tho standard of work is not sufficiently high: Ho then remarked, para-: doxically, : that ho'-;knew of a student at tho Masterton District High School who 1 had passed tho first year's terms examinations of the University. Ho wanted to know if somo of: tho money; could not"be'.'used to pay a senior Board scholar's boarding expenses ''while attending tho University. 'It was dccided that the : Chief . Inspector (Mr. ; T. R. Fleming, M.A., LL.B.) should go into, tho, wholo question of scholarships and';, report'to ,tho Board...'•• X , .
