MASTEHTON. Hospital matters, w.ero discussed by two meetings hero yesterday. Tho trustees of the local hospital met in tho morning, and tho District Board at mid-day. The first-named body accepted tho tender of Mr. J. Tart at £235 for tho ercction of a morgue and sundry other outbuildings at the now Hospital grounds. Tho matron's suggestions.regarding tho staff of tho hospital wero adopted as outlined at a previous meeting. The diary showed that thirty-eight patients had been admitted since last meeting, twenty-eight bad boon exchanged, and five had died. There wero still twenty-two in tho institution. It was dccided to reccivo a further deputation from tho Friendly Societies' Council at next meeting' to discuss tho attaching of Drs. Cook and Cowio to tho active staff of tho hospital. At the meeting of tho District Board the Hospital' Bill was cursorily discussed. Tho members present were unanimously of opinion that the Bill was against tho interests of tho district, and were in favour of taking a very dccided stand against it. Finally, it was decided to leavb tho Bill in tho hands of a committee composed of Messrs. Win. Perry, J. C. Ewington, W. Fisher, E. G. Eton, and M. Maxton to discuss and to report on at tho statutory' meeting of tho Board, to bo hold ill March.
Miss Edith Murray, daughter of Mr. J. L. Murray,.of .Masterton, achieved a very creditable performance at tho rccent examinations. 1 Slio passed tho senior scholarship and matriculation examinations at ono sitting, and scoured tho highest marks at tho sitting. Tho eight successful persons to guoss the weight of tho bullock i in tho guessing competition at Masterton Show aro to draw lots 011 Saturday for the prize—a valuablo sewing machine." Mr. C. E. Wyett was married on Tuesday to Miss S. Wcstrup, daughter of tho lato Major West-nip. Mr. Harry Rawson was best man, and Mr. Cyril Beard groomsman, the bridesmaids being Miss Ella Wyett and Miss Hardy, of Napior. The Rev. A. M. Johnson performed tho ceremony. Gn tho samo day Mr. J. B. Higgins, lato of Now Plymouth, and iliss Amy Williams, a well-known Masterton young lady, wero married at St. Matthew's Church'. Miss E. Hodgins was bridesmaid.
