They further. stated that thore was no ; evidence of tho lessees of the Town Belt sections taking steps'to crailicato' 1 the gorse •is provided in terms of their, lease,' aud tho Committco asked for instructions from tho Council as to what steps shall bo taken to ensure tho .work being carried out.- llio report was adopted.. ■Tho By ? laws arid- Street Lighting Comnrittoo _ recommended- that all applications for additional lamp 3 be postponed until the beginning: of next financial year. .Tho Committco also recommended that a Gamowell indicator' for tho Central Fire Station bo purchased; that the rianio of "Park Street,'''' Goldiesbrae, bo changed to " Grant Road North," as . requested by tho residents of such street; that the application of'.Messrs. Williams and-Meredith "for tlio consent of the Council to a proposed right-of-way off Lambton Quay -to Messrs. ' M'Ewen and Churchill's premises, be granted,.-subject to the conditions imposed by tho City Engineer; that tho application of Mr. H." P. Hanify for permission to construct a street G6 feet wide off tho upper end'of Arlington Street be granted, provided tho line of tho proposed sewor is slightly altered, arid subject to the City Engineer's requirements being satisfactorily carried, out. Tho report, was adopted, with the. exception ( 6f ' tho recpriimendation, to purchase a. Gamewcll indicator. INCREASES IN SALARY. The finance and Property Committee regretted to report that it had come, to the opinion that tne "application of the 'Eastbourne Borough Council for... the, services of tho City Engineer: for a report oil tho Eastbourne water works, must, in view of tho work now being done by him, be-refused. The Committee also recommended that)accounts amounting to £10,881' Is. 7d.; bo passed for' paymont; that the following increases ,in salary be granted: — M. ,'J. Casey, £156 to £182, as from January J, 'and to be appointed permanently clerk in charge of City Engineer's office; A. Lafferty, £2 14s. to 583 per week, as .from January 1, and to bo permanently appointed clerk ill City Engineer's office'; H. L. Godbor, £225' to £250, as from- February 1; A. H. Stevenson, £1'65 to £190, as from 1M)ruary 1; .H. Ca!verliill, £115 to £125, as from February 1. A further recommendation was made that tho offer of the Joseph Trustees to accopt £25 per acre for the land taken' at Karon for catchment area be accepted. The report was adopted. Tlio Libraries Committee recommended that tenders .bo called for the bookbinding contract for one year only,. instead :of for two years.' The resignation -of Miss •N. Sampson as library assistant had been accepted. The report was adopted.
