Tho fortnightly meeting of. the < Karori Borouglv Council was held' Jast evening, there being present; Councillors Murdoch (m the .chair). Smith, Wedde, Gathio, Spiers, Lissington, Hammond, Clark," and Putnaiu. ' Messrs. B. Smith and Co. , wrote accepting tho Council's _offer ■of £20' in settlement of, the. claim for rent of: Bell's Quarry. .. The Town Clerk of. tho " Wellington City Council intimated, in reply to the Borough Council's request that the' City i Council should set up a committee to t deal with tho question of amalgamation, tha't the- Financo Committee appointed by .the .Council to deal with such matters was prepared to meet tho Borough's committeo at any timo in order to discuss the matter. ,'~ V.
Tho City Engineer, in a memorandum dated February 11, drew tho Council's attention to the subsidence (caused by slips) 'of fillings at certain' points along ' the Karori tramway, particularly at poles 104 and 10ti, at which points the lifting and i-epacking of the track was urgently required. The estimated cost was sot down at'£lo9. To this it- had, been answered that tho work was specifically covered by.Sub-elauso B of Clause 7 of the agreemeut between the two bodies. * In reply, the City Town Clerk pointed out that the City Council was not liable for thp work, and as tho matter was urgent the City Engineer was taking .it in hand at once. ' ' .... i ; Soma discussion arose ys to tho Borough's liability concerning the repairs referred - to, the Council being unanimously of opinion that in the terms of the agreement there was no liability on its part to defray the cost of repairs arising out. of slips.. A letter was received from the City Electrical Engineer with reference to tile Council's request for an increased car service to Karori. It was stated that an extra lato ear every evening, and additional cars on Saturdays, would ho arranged for, tho late car to leavo Newtown at 10.40 p.m. and the Government station at 11.5, leaving Karori on the return journey at; 11.25 p.m., and arriving at Nowtown at 12.15 a.m.', Double fares would be colleoted on tho late cars, and tho Borough would ho charged double mileago. ' It was agreed that tho lato car timc-tablo suggested bo adopted.. A proposal to colloct singlo fares was rojected. On tho recommendation of tho Financo I Committee,.Mr. - Cyril Irwin Dasent was' ap- • pointed to represent tho Council ,on tlib Assessment Court, in connection with tho revaluation of the Borough. .
