Sorho, months ago application was made to tho National Park Board for permission to prospect for minerals in Egmont National Park or forest reserve. The applicants stated they had found valuable and workable deposits of gold, manganese, sulphur, and other minerals. Tho Board referred tho matter for the favourable consideration of tho Minister, who sent an officer of the geological division 'to inspect, and report. It is understood now "that ho is very favourably impressed with tho possibilities of the reefs disclosed, but of courso no 'definite information can bo obtained .until his report has been presented to tho Department.
