Horr Dornburg, Director of Colonial Affairs, speaking in tho Roichstag, stated that soon only a few colonies would require Imperial assistance. The trade of the Cameroons wicreased by 40 per. cent. last year. Considerable mineral wealth had been discovered in the Carolino and tho Ladron'e Islands. There was 40,000,000 tons of phosphates on the Island of Nauru alone. Herr Dcrnburg promised to try to safeguard tho ten million natives in East Africa against any brutal display of. power. He added that if the Government acceded to the wishes of tho white farmers tho entire labour force of the colony would emigrate to British'territory, where labour .conditions wore lighter aud more humane.
