VARIOUS RUMOURS AS Tp PURCHASE. BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COrYIiiaHT. (Reo. Feb. 19, 10.39 p.m.) London, February 19. Tho "Daily. Chroniclo " states that, owing to the opposition of Mr. rMoberley Beir (representing American interests),' Mr. C. A. Pearson , has, withdrawn from tho arrangements mado witli "Tho Time 3," but is .still negotiating. Tho original proposal contemplated a company with a capital "of £850,000, owning and controlling. " Tho Times," tho "Standard," and tho "St.' James's Gazetto." The "Daily Express 1 ' states that Mr. Pearson will bo manager of ; tho company at a salary of £10,000 a year for twenty years, and Mr. Arthur .Walter'will bo chairman, at a salary of £1000 a year. The " Daily ; Graphic " states that Mr. Moberley 8011, on behalf of an American syndicate, including Mr. Hooper Jackson (of "Tho Times " Book Club), is outbidding Mr. Pearson. '' • .
