WELLINGTON CHORAL SOCIETY.

, ANNUAL REPORT. ' The. report to be submitted to the annual meetiiig of the .Wellington Choral Society on Friday evening congratulates the Socicty on the completion of the most successful year of its existence. Tho following thrco works were performed during the season:—July 9, "Judas Maccabaeus" (Handel); October 15, "The Redemption" (Gounod) December 10, "The Messiah" (Handel),.;- Tho result of these performances was most satisfactory;especially that of "The Redemption," when the Society secured the services of the worldrenowned baritone, Mr. Andrew Black. The debit balance lias, been reduced from £95 18s: to £31-2s. Gd., due largely to tho hearty cooperation of the performing members; and tho Committee hopes that this' amount will entirely disappear during the coming season. The very satisfactory musical results attained during,the year are in a .very large measure due'to tho'zeal and ability displayed by Mr. J,. Maughan Barnett, the conductor, combined with a ready response on the part of performing members to'tho conductor's baton. The Committco records its thanks to . tho members of the orchestra; to' 1 Mr. Horace Hunt, lion, accompanist;: to the Dresden Piano Company for booking arrangements; to Mr. A. T. Bate for use of room for committee meetings; and to all other friends who have assisted tho; Society in any way during the year. . Mendelssohn's oratorio "Elijah has been selected for the' first performance of the season 1908, and tho "Messiah'' will be performed at tho end of tho season. . The Committee earnestly commend the. Society to a ; music-loving community for liberal support and a generous subscription list. During the year fourteen Committee nieetings were held, at which tho attendance was as follows:—Mr. R. T: Caldow, 14; Dr. Fyffe, 2; Mr. E. R. Mowbray, 12; Mr. A. D. Wells, 9; Mr. F. B. Young, 9; Mr. J. W. Barclay, lion, librarian, 11; -Mr. J. C. Young, lion, treasurer, .14; Mr. S. G. Plamcrtoii, lion, see., 14.
