REV. CHARLES INWOOD'S MISSION

; - The ; Rev. - Charles , Inwood met. a large number of local minister's in Goflber's rooms, Cuba Street, yesterday, to whom ho gave a very interesting account, of' the' genesis and work of the lieswick convention. Mr. Inwood also answered a number. of questions having reference to his work in England and the colonies.

In the evening tho broad middle aislo of the Baptist Church, Vivian Street, was woll filled at the first of Mr. Ihwood's "meetings, for Christians, I .', and " for- the -deepening of the spiritual life."./ The preacher, however, described tho'attondahco'as the smallest ho had had at an opeiing meeting since coming to New Zealand. Taking as'his'text Isaiah lxiv, 7, "And there is none that'stirreth l up himself to take hold of Thop,'.' Mr. Inwood gavo an eloquent and earnest address on the subject' of intercessory prayor.,' In . theso ultra-scientific, day's people 1 had. l<)st a great deal of their faith in tlie'working-power of prayer,, and felt that they could not expect to-day 'to hear such answers' to prayer' as' their fathers and'grandfathers, had beforo 'them'.; But when; they really prayed; they took'hold'of God, took' hold of tho-Supremo Reality, and, when they moved God they Had results that. wero impossible to. men, but possible.■ to Almighty God. The mightiest power that any of them could' wield was tho power to provail with God in prayer. Real intercession • was not child's play;' nothing would, take so much out of them- as real in■tercessory prayer, in which they got : real hold 'of God, arid knew it. The whole powor : 'of the soul must bo called into exercise Kef on; there could bo blessing. , Several hymns were-sung during the meeting, and the Roy. J. Williams, who presided,' read' a chapter from' Ezekiel. • Mr.' Inwood will conduct Bible readings in the Courteriay Place Church at 3 p.m. to-day, to-morrow, and mi Thursday, and will hold evening meetings on those days in the .-.Vivian' Street Baptist* Church. .
