Tho City Engineer (Mr. Morton) ■ advisei tho • City Council last night. that, in view of the diminishing water it would be desirable to pass a special resolution prohibiting the use of water; for' lifts';' ejectors, smithy blasts, gardens, bowling grfieris, fountains, washing windows by hosing, even although tlio .water:; passed' through, meters, 'such:authority!-however, not-to be.exercised until the'.level-of tho water at.Wamuifalla to threo feet below the crest of tho by-wash. At tlio present time the level of the water was,'lie stcted, inches below tho. crest. The Mayor, who moved in tlio direction indicated, pointed out that the authority would not bo exercised unless sheer necessity arose;- ■■ ■ Councillor Smith asked if it were a fact that ian immense amount of water, had- been usoil recently oh-tho Basin-Reserve, v Councillor Luke said that orders had been given ia week ago- that watering, on the Reserve should bo discontinued. Councillor Smith: I- saw it being, done as recently as yesterday. , ■ Tho -Mayor Said the: matter would be : inquired into. ' : i ' :_•• , On being put, the motion was affirmed without dissent. -V At a later stage a motion was passed authorising the. City Electrical Engineer to mako provision for street-watering by means of sea water. ■. >
