YORKSHIRE SOCIETY.
An interesting account .of somo. Yorkshire' customs, characteristics, and sayings was-given at tho monthly meeting of tho Yorkshire Society last evoning by Mr. C. Wilson, Parliamentary librarian. Mr. Wilson reviewed, at -some length, many of the old superstitions and curious customs which, though rapidly dying out, are still to bo l'ound-existing in some of tho more isolated villages, especially in the north and east ridings. He also dealt with some of the peculiar observances which took place at the births, weddings, and deaths of tho'country, folk, and quoted sonio amusing rhymes used in those connections. After a description of the leading characteristics of the old-time Yorkshiremeii, illustrated by amusing stories. 'Mr. Wilson gavn somo extracts from poems written in thn Yorkshire dialect. A hearty vote of. thanks was accorded, to tlie lecturer, and tho hopo expressed that on a future.occasion lie would, give 'another.', budget of stories dealing with the Yorkshire character. Tho chair was occupied bv Mr. G. T Hall, in tho unavoidable absence'of Mr. J. H, President of the Society.
