Von Voltheim, who is being tried at the Old Bailey on a charge of blackmailing Solly Joel for £16,000, on which charge ho was extradited. from Paris, dfcnied that ho committed blackmail.. '• Ho testified: that ho simply demanded what was promised to him when he arranged in 1897, with tho late Barney Barnato, details of a plot to cause a split among'tho Boers by means of a Pseudo-Boer revolution, which was to deposo President Kruger in favour of some othor prominent. Boer. This would have obviated war, and would, have enabled Barnato to make hugo sums by stock-jobbing on the eve of tho revolution.
