': I . HOUSE BURNED IN DUNKDIN," (BY TELEGItAI'U—ritKSS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedlri, February 11.' ; A largo woodfin hbuso situated between Georgo and Filleul Streets was destroyed by fire-to-night.' The ground on-which it stood 'was practically , surrounded -by wooden cottages,! some of which abutted on Georgo Street shops.. The tiro originated in the kitchen chimney. The house was old and blazed furiously,'and, though ail excellent pressure was. available, only ; tho outer shell and part of tho back premises wore saved, with part of tho furriituro downstairs. Fortunately, tho wind, was light, and tho firemen prevented the spread of the flames. The houso was occupied-by i Mr. Charles Ward, two other gentlemon, and six ladies. A loaso ■was recently' obtained by Messrs. Hugh Mitchell, and Co. Tho building and furniture wero insured. FACTORY AND OFFICES DESTROYED. Christchurch,-February 11. • The factory and offices of.the, Colonial and. Foreign" Agency Co. woro totally destroyed by firo early this'-'morning. The insurances wero £3400 in the Allianco on the building and contents, and £400 in tho Now Zealand on tho building. ... AN INSURANCE COMPANY'S LOSSES. Chrlstchurch, Fobruary 11. In connection with tho rcceiit conflagration it is stated that ono insurance company in Christchureh has lost more money over tho fire than it'will collect in'premiums for the next thirty years, not allowing for a single additional loss during that period.
