Tho sixth annual • meeting of the Central Emigration Board .was held at Lord Brassey s house. •• Sir> H. Tozer,' Agent-General for Queensland, and Captain Collins, representa-, tivo of the Commonwealth, were among those present; Mr. Coghlan, Agent-General for Ndw South Wales, and Mr. Taverner, AgentGeneral for Victoria, wrote declining to at- t tend; on the ground ,that persons whom the Board had selected to emigrate would be unwelcome 'to Australia, being :mostly 'the failures of tho . towns. - . ' The report stated that during tho year 389, had emigrated, almost all to Canada, where employment had been found for them. y Lord-Brassey said that if the Board were properly supported it would accomplish much moro than it had done. ' Lord Ranfurly,"formerly Governor of: New Zealand, moved a resolution pledging the' meeting to support tho Board in promoting the'emigration of suitable and desirablo persons ■ from tho -United > Kingdom Ho tho. Colonies. -He stated that no ono who had been sent Was unsuitablo to colonial ilife. ; • Mr.: ! Jenkins, • ■Agent-General for. South Australia, said , that emigrants only needed ample pluck and a suitable start. ; Mr.' Rason;v Agent-General- for West. sos-• tralia/* stated, that the type -of, emigrant wanted in Australia constantly varied. - In each State the Government must.bo, the judge.'.'Suitablo settlers for ■ tho land, wore .prinoipally-rcquired at present. ■ x > • ■ Lord Ranfurly's resolution was carried; Mr. B. R. Wise, formerly Attorney-General for New South Wales, moved a, resolution approving tho Board's work. Ho said it was nsoless to send-social driftwood from England to tho Dominions overseas. Sir Clement Kinloch Cooke, a specialist on -workj claimed that the -fund entrusted to tho Board bad been administered by-men with practical Colonial experienco. , •Mr. Wise's motion was carried. ...
