Presumably a small quantify of gas " had become ignited spontaneouslyj MAN RUN AVER BY A TRAIN. ~,, Wanganui, January 31. A fatal, accident .occurred at Gonville last evening on , tho- ; Castleelifi . branch . lino of railway, when a-man named Andrew Bogle was run over by a train , and cut .to pieces. ■ . The train was approaching Gonville station tflien the engine-driver; noticed .something on the line, a,few yards in front of the engine.' Ho. immediately applied the brakes, but the train passed.; over, .the object before being brought to a standstill. ' \ . . An arm and a- leg .-'were'.'severed, and' the body was horribly mangled. The victim was •within a few yards of his home, and evidently., did not hear, or. see the approaching •• faain. ';i "■■■ •; - 'Duncan Linton, a single man, employed on the' s.s.. Rotoiti as a. seaman,, fell a distance. of : four or five feet amongst some machinery oii' tho Rotoiti last: night." He continued working for a little while, but,was .suddenly seized .with pains in his head* followed by violent sickness. Ho, also complained of internal pains. Linton was admitted to tho Hospital, at 9.30 o'clock, but up to a late 1 h'our .lthp-,nature;'of ;his' ' injuries were not known, though he'.'' seemed; to be badly hurt..
