' ', V ■ Duneriln, January 31. _ , A communication emanating from, the Waikato Miners' Unioji lias been received by the local branch of the Anialgamated Society of ' Carpenters and Joiners, in \yhich- is submitted a proposal for the. federation of all • Now Zealand workers' unions.,-.The:advan-. tages of suoh a niovo are pointed out' ni the : circular,, which states that this aloije is the Wjiy. by wbicli the workers may hppe to improvo their social conditions. It is proposed that-a conference be held in a suitable cen- ' tre. The Carpenters' * and Joiners' Union favourably received the proposition, 1 and referred tho matter, to, the Trades and Labour Council with tho intimation that it was pre- ■ pared to send two delegates to tho confer ence. ' . : A DISSATISFIED'' UNION. Duncdln, January 31., The local branch of the . Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners is much dissatisfied with the award of the Arbitration , Court; at its last sitting, The. matter was', discussed at a mooting to-night, when tlio almost- unanimous opinion was expressed that nothing further could' be expected towards tho betterment ofconditions from tho Arbitration Court, and that, thoir hope of improvement was bjr legislation.. Tho principal point, of dissatisfaction is in regard to wages as 'compared 'with what is • paid to' bricklayers and plasterers, who, it is said, 'receive Is. 4d. per day more tliaii carpcnters, and have practically no tools to supply.
