SUNDAY REST.
This Bishop of London presided recently at a meeting at Wood Green in favour of Suuday obsoi yanci!. The Bishop said that one of the things which miide it a great pleasure for him to take the' chair tit that meeting was because it was ;a - meeting of united Christians. He always felt that the disunion of Christendom was;one of the greatest obstacles to the progress of Christianity. "Since 1 have been over to the other side of tho Atlantic/' he said, "aud seen how very much more nil the Chinches are united in Christian progress there, i have determined to try and unite them on all the points we can in tbis'country. "In regard to Sunday, we have one of the greatest poinU on 1 which Christians can be united. 1 look on the observance of Sunday as one of the finest pieces of Christian evidences vre have, and it is a piece of evidenco .which cannot bo refuted. "Secondly, we have in Sunday what I will call tho wo'.ktr's charter, and as a clever inan observe-' 1 to me the other day, ' Sunday is God's Eig '; Hours Bill.' "We mean''to safeguard the one chance for thousands of men and women for caring for their soulr. What we have to remember is that this great boon of Sunday is not lost yet, and I do not agree with those who say that the rest of Su- 'ay has gone, but 1 notice various things wh. a are teuding to rob us of it. "The first c f all is the breaking up of conventional reli; ,on. I do not regret that breaking up. I v. juld rather have five men in church : becausi. 'they wanted to bo tjiere than 500 who are there because they are driven in. " The fiiTt use of Sunday is worship. The man who sleeps till one o'clock is not keeping Sunday any better than fellows who go bonting. It is a day for home life and reasonable recreation "i the best san*»"
