, A meeting .of Marton Borough Council was held last evening, 'and' opportunitywas taken by Cr. Sutclilfe to congratulate Mr. John iU'Eldowney.ion ;hia election as Mayor of Marton, tvico'Dr. Skerman, resigned. His Worship,, in, returning thanks, remarked that the present Council consisted of members who had tho interests of the Borough generally at heart. The Council was considered to move slowly, but they wore more progressive than the majority of ratepayersj who had rejectcdl a movement. They must how toith'at/dccision'. ■; Ho thanked the Council , for tho expressions of goodwill, and trusted thoy would- work together in tho interests of the borough. At.a. meeting, of tho Borough Council, the Marton Tiro Brigade "drew attention to the practice of shutting off. the water supply, without notifying the' residents or Firo Brigade. : It was pointed out that if: such notice was given provision could be mado for emergencies in caso of firo. Attention is to be "given to this matter. • . . Tho Works. Committee recommended that the Council.'s employees do the necessar}' repairs to tho •main- streets and footpaths' atonce. This, was agreed to. •
