At tho meeting of tho I'etoHo Borough Counoil on Monday night, tlio Borough Inspector (Mr. Gougii) stated that in November last ho was instructed to proseouto a Britannia Streot resident' for draining into tho Recreation Ground, and causing a nuisance. Tho case was adjourned to January 27, and, when called on, tho Court was told that Mr. Kirk (Borough Solicitor) had withdrawn tho case. If- that was so, he would liko to know why ho was not informed of tho fact. The Mayor, explained that no instruction had been to withdraw tho Tlio Council granted permission to tho Gear Company to erect now manure works adjoining tho main work in Petone, on condition that tho plans aro in accordance with tbo details outlined by Or. FrOnglcy (Health Officer for tho district), which will bo imposed as by-laWs by way of special order. The Gear Company have agreed to give to tho borough tho land for an approach to the now bridge for which they formerly asked £4000. Tho Council decided to take tho necessary steps to place before tho ratepayers loans amounting to £21,500, for the following works:—wharf loan No. 2, £1000; eastern drainage scheme, £6550 j Recreation Ground improvoment, £2500; creek diversion scheme, £6500; loan for clock, £600. Councillor Nicholson moved that, in view of tho failure.of the Miramar reclamation Echomo, a committee bo set up to bring up n sohenlo to induce manufacturers to como to Petono. The Mayor and Councillors Lodder, Short, and Nicholson were appointed a connnitteo to consider the matter.
