Mr. Midgley Taylor, the eminent English engineer, will confer with the Auckland Borough Council te-morrew nighty on the Borough drainage question (states an 'Auckland Press Association telegram). Mr. Taylor has also accepted the invitation of the Napier Borough Council to report upon the Napier sewer outfall. Ho will leave Auckland on Friday, and will go down tho Wanganui River en routo to Napier. Afterwards he will visit tho South Island,'leaving in time to catch the Orontes at Melbourne on February 25 for England. The Rev. Father Goggan announced at the morning service in St. Patrick's Church on Sunday (says tho Hawke's Bay "Herald") that be is about to leave tho Napier parish to tako up the position of vice-rector of St, Patrick's College, Wellington, It was to fill that post that Father Goggan came to New Zealand, but tho state of his health necessitated his removal to the country. He leaves for Wellington on Monday next, but will return a week later for a few days to make some final arrangements, Father Goggan was formerly located in Wellington.
Mr. E. P. Rawson,' of Masterton, whoso appointment as ; Stipendiary Magistrate has been announced, was born at New Plymouth in 1865, and entered the Justice Department at tho early age ef fourteen years. He has now attained twenty-eight years' service in tho various positions. Ho has been in office in fourteen towns in New Zealand. Ho was 'admitted a solicitor in 1894, and camo to Masterton nine years ago. In that time he held the positions of Clerk of tho Magistrate's District Courts, Registrar of Electors, Clerk of tho Licensing Bench, and Sheriff. He married Miss Moss, of Greymouth, in 1894. Mr. Rawson leaves Masterton in ten days' time to take up his new I duties at Westport.
The funeral of Mr. Bernard Keating, who was killed, at Kelburiie on Saturday, was largely attended yesterday morning. Prior to leaving far the K.irori Cemetery a short service was conducted in St. Mary of the "Angels Church, Boulcott Street, by tho Rev. Father M'Donald, who also officiated at the graveside. Tho mourners filled ton cabs, and amongst them were Mr. H. Wardell, the whole of Vardell and Go's, staff, and Mr. R. Evans, deceased's most intimate frieild. Among tho wreaths sent Woro oftertogs from tho Grocers' Assistants' Union, tho Public Servico Stores, Messrs. Edward Anderson and G'o., H. Wflrdell, and R. lDvans. The deceased, who was popular with evctyono, was educated partly in France, and at one time studied for priesthood, both at Homo and at St; Patrick's College, Wellington, but hid to give it up in favour of an outdoor life o\\ account of liis health.
