SUPPOSED SUICIDE.
PECULIAR. FEATURES. (Br TELEGRAPH —PKIiSS ASSOCIATION.) - Ghristchurch, January 2". A fatality. presenting some, remarkable features occurred yesterday. The body of a man was found in a small gully on the highest part of the Lyttelton ltoad, near •Sumnor. The body was .brought to Siinwer, -when it was found that the only apparent injury was a fracture of ono leg above the ankle. , ■ It was evident that tho man had not fallen far, but had tripped among the rocks and broken his leg, and he appeared to bavo moved about a good deal after the accident. In his pocket was found a note-book with a long letter of farewell to his wifo, concluding ■with , tho statenient of. his intention to do away with himself. His name was James Topham, and he was ■a resident of Sydenham. _ Tho letter was :datcd January 23, and it is supposed that the man'died that ovening. ' At tho inqueso held to-night a .verdict was returned that the man, whilo of nosound mind, committed suicide by opening a varicose vein in his leg.
