MOVEMENTS OF THE WARSHIPS* AN INTERESTING EXPERIMENT. H.M.S. Powerful and the vessels of tho. Squadron now in port were visited by many hundreds of people yesterday, some of tho smaller harbour steamers doing lively business throughout the afternoon. The Powerful (flying the flag of His Excellency the Admiral) will leave Wellington for Sydney on Friday next,/ January 31. The. Prometheus will leave Wellington on the same- day for Westport, from whore she ■will proceed to Melbourne to receive her new commander, Captain Bentinck having been relieved on promotion. The remainder of the Squadron will leave on February 1 for Nelson, ,and later for Hobart, arriving about tho middle of February. It is intended to endeavour to connect New Zealand with Australia by means of wireless telegraphy between the ships in New Zealand waters, the Powerful on the passage across, tho Cambrian outside Sydney, and tho Psycho in Port Jackson; but tho success of this depends on suitable weather. His Excellency the Admiral last week inspected tho Pioneer and Pyramus, and this week he inspects the Prometheus, Pegasus, and Powerful. The Powerful coals (1300 tons) from tho collier Kaituna on Tuesday, and tho remainder of the Squadron lator in the week.
