THE NEW PAQUIN SKIRTS.

American fashion papers liavo a great deal to say just now about the new Paqum skirts, and it is quite likely that a hot Dattlo will bo waged over the question of their seemliness or otherwise. They were invented in Paris, and, looking at the fashion-plates, one feels that there they should have remained. They are decidedly not suited to Anglo-Saxon ideas of good form. The main idea is that they shall fit as closely as possible, so closely that those which aro made with folds develop wriukles when the wearer moves, and it has therefore been thought well to make pleats like little wrinklos°m them. To look absolutely perfect they should he worn by an eel on castors, and the eel should make not the slightest effort to move herself along, she should be drawn by a string. The ladies who wear them in ail their perfection do not attempt to wail; ill the ordinary way; they progress in a series of small kicks, taking great care not to lift tho trailing skirt from tho ground, for the trailiness gives an additional charm to its snaky suppleness. There have been many foolish fashions, but it is to bo doubted whether any have been more fooliih than this of the sheath-like skirt. Certainly none have been more objectionable, and it is comforting to think that it is too extreme to lust for long.
