PETONE NEWS.

At the Wesleyan Church, Nelson Street, Miss Lilla Mary O'Meara, eldest daughter of Mrs. O'Meara, of Richmond Street, was married to Mr. R. W. Potton, jun., also of Petone, the Rev. Mr. Wilson officiating. Mr. Baker, of Masterton, gave his niece away. The bridal dress was of cream figured sicilian, trimmed with cream satin and lace. Misses Eva and Elsie O'Meara acted as bridesmaids, and Messrs. W. I. Woollett and. Mr. W. P. Cooke as best-man and groomsman respectively. A reception, attended by about fifty, guests, was afterwards held at the Ranfurly Hall.

On Wednesday evening, a fire broke, out on one of the ridges of the Lowry Bay Estate, and looked as if it would sweep the bay. A man was dispatched for assistance, and a dozen willing hands turned out, and were conveyed down in one of Mr. Peters's brakes. They had a long fight, and did not succeed in checking the fire until after midnight.
