Chew, manager of the Nireaba Dairy Fact-ory, whose sensational .experiences in the bush fire were recorded in Wednesday's Dominion, left Nirpaha yesterday for Wellington to seek medical, atteiftibn (iyrites our Wairarapa correspondent). Mr. Chew lost his voice completely on Thursday, when hp almost collapsed at the factory, and it was deemed advisable to pjaco him under medical attention. Mr. Chow will stay in Welling-, ton till ho has quite recovered.

Mrs. Bland Holt, tho popular actress, having contracted typhoid fever, was last weok lying dangerously ill at Grosvenor Private Hospital, Fremantle. Dr. T. I L. Anderson, who was in attendance, took the gravest view of the case. Mrs! Bland Holt landed at Fremaiitio the previous week from the G.M.S. Scharnhorst," to be with her friend, Miss Uoppin, who was found to.be suffering from tho same disease. Mr. Bland Holt was staying at the hospital. Tho condition of Miss Uoppin was improving. . ' Count Morner, Chief Swedish Consul for Australasia, leaves for Auckland to-day, and will go on to Rotorua during next week. Mr. W. H. Skinner, of tho Lands and Survey Department, Now Plymouth, ' a gentleman who has done much (as a member of the North Island Scenery Preservation Society) to aid .in the conservation of spots of historic interest, loft .yesterday on a twelve months' tour of the world. Mr. Skinner will be accompanied by his wife, and the intention is to visit the Holy Land, Constantinople, Greece, and Great Britain. It is not generally known that the Hon. James Carroll, Native Minister, was born under the shades of a cabbago tree on . a farm in Northern Wairoa, Hawke's Bay, at present owned by Mr. J. H. Smyths, a well-known pioneer of the, district. Mr. Smythe has just lately placed a very handsome enclosure round the tree, and has presented tlio plot of oarth to Mr. Carroll. Tho site is said to bo pne'of tho most picturesque spots in Wairoa, and it is understood (writes our Wairarapn correspondent) that Mr. Carroll has expressed a wish that the spot shall be his last, as well a 6 his first resting placo on this earth. Tho members of tho staff of tho Land Transfer and Deeds Registry Oflico met yestorday in order to mako a presontation to Mr. W. P. MoTgan, solicitor, who has been attached to the head offico for some twelve years, and is now boing . transferred to 'tho Hokitika branch.
