SALVATION ARMY LEAGUE OF MERCY.

At a meeting in tlic Salvation Army Citadel last night, a branch ot the League ot' Mercy was formed. This is an organisation consisting of women members of the Army, who undertake to visit the sick and dying, giving them spiritual comfort, to attend at polico courts, visit prisons, relieve the poor, succour orphans, and seek out situations for.the destitute and unemployed. Brigadier Albiston, who presided at the meeting, said that such work as would be carried on by the League was already being done by the soldiers here, but it would now be organised and directed. Other speakers were Mrs. Major Glover, secretary of the League). Airs. Staff-C'aptain MTmre (in charge of the League's hospital visitation work), and ilrs. Adjutant Ncilson (visitor to the Oliiro Home). The first members of the Wellington branch of the League were presented with their commissions by Brigadier Albiston. They wore, on this occasion, largo white -sashes, hearing the words "League of Mercy," but these arc not for daily use. There is. however, a special badge in the form of a brooch worn on tho left breast. The members commissioned last night were:—Mrs. Major Glover, Mrs. Stall-Captain M'Lure, Mrs. Adjutant Brown, Mrs. Adjutant Ncilson, Mesdajnes Hudman, Brodie, Hawker, Clarke, Wood, and Colley.
