THE SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
(BT TELEGIIArIl —SFECIAL CORRESPONDENT.) Wanganui, January 23. Tressider put in slightly faster work in tho first part of tho row to-day, striking 28 to 30. Tho boat, travelling at a solid pace, showed there was good power in tho strokes. There was also considerable improvement in the style generally. Tho catch was very clcan, but still displays an uneven finish. Finding difficulty in getting weight olf, the Australian champion will probably row in his old boat, which is heavier than the. now ono. Ho has only boon tlireo times in tho latter, the third time to-day, and lie Has not comfortable in her. Ho now scales 12st. 111b., and will probably row about, that weight. Webb camo down the river to-day, sculling in very pretty stylo, striking 22 through most, of the low, and sending the skiff through the water at a fair pace. There is every prospect of a close race, and tho result looks more open now than was thought three weeks ago, as Tressider is making better showing in his work.
