POLICE 'CASES.- ' (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Five first offenders lor drunkenness .were convicted and fined ss. each, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Two others, who I'id not appear, were convicted and fined lC.s. each, the amount of-their bail, in default 48 hours 1 imprisonment. . Martha Enrlo and "William "Williams, who had been convicted twice within the last six months, weie con- • victed and filled 20s. each, in default seven days' imprisonment. , ASSAUL'iV ' Harry Halfiill,'n youth, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having, on Januavy 22, unlawfully assaulted' ono Frances M'Cann. Prosecutor stated that lie and accused, who were at the timo in an hotel, had an argument over.a case in which he'(prosecutor) was convicted of assaulting a man whom ho accused of writing with chalk tile words "Anti-Socialist" on his back. Accused struck ■him insido the hotel and again when they ■ reached the street. ' ■Constable Simpson gave evidence; that lie saw three moil with their coals; off in \ ic- ' toria'-Street; Accused was frying to strike prosecutor, .but ; another man was holding him hack. Accused stated that prosecutor agreed-to'fight him.' Prosecutor blacked his eye. A fine of 205., in default seven days imprisonment was imposed.
