A MYSTERY SOLVED.
The ; mystery stfrrtfuriding the presence of foiir'men-on. Sophia,(lsland,-as reported by Captain' Breaks, of tho > steamer Queen Helena, is easily solved. The men taken by the master, of theicbig ."tramp to be castaways were Residents of Jthe ; island, .which, is inhabited. Triio, tho population is not a large one,'i.thore being:.-:only . five men and three women' thore. The people are Samoaus, who are'working on tho island for its owner; Mr. H. J.'Moors, a Samoan planter., The island is'a 'tfoiy small one, being but 300 acres in extent.} In' the centre of it is a saltwater lagoon/, fivp;iK&'in area. It lias an elevation or 15 to 30 feet above sea level. The land ;ia rich and yields a good cocoanut crop. Extensive guano deposits are also present in certiiih portions of tho island. The place, which has been owned by Mr. Moors, is now under oiler to a syndicate, which into remove the guano.
