'' ' / The town of Colac, 95,1 miles west of Melbourne, narrowly, escaped being swept. The Anglican Church, a store, and a dwelling were destroyed, Two men, named Power and Lucas, rode through a veritable sea of firo and rescued a woman named Clapham and three children. All were mora or, less burned. Noarly ono hundred persons in Beech Forest are temporarily Wind through the effects of the smoke. TOWN PARTLY DESTROYED. The seaside township of Anglesea, twentysix miles, from Geelong, was partially destroyed by a fire which started in the ranges. The church, post office, and several private residences and a boarding-house were burned. The flames leaped the river and partially destroyed the bridge: Forty settlers .wore burned out in South (Jippslond., . . 5 ' ' FARMERS' GREAT LOSSES. In the Lenthorpe. district over 150,000 acres of grass, 10,000 sheep, and miles of fencing were destroyed. At Rivernook many large dairy farms were almost completely, swept away. , ■ ' Lome, 96 miles south-west of Melbourne, is threatened.',-The inhabitants are removing their effects. l , . A party visiting- .the Phantom Foils were surrounded by lire, and only rescued with the greatest difficulty.. Two men were , burned to death at Wangerih, and a child at Mount Sabin.
