If assistance is required to protect tbe Upper Gorgo bridgo a number of Woojlvillo people are ready and willing.
FIRES FRESHENING VP AT DANNEVIRKE. . . Dannevirlic, January 21 A heavy, ,southerly wjnd blew last night, which'freshened up the hush liros. The town is cnvelopefl in smoke. Reports liavo just reached town that heavy (ires are raging in the Norsewood district. Several farm houses have.been destroyed, and a-number of others are threatened. ' OUTBREAK NEAR WAIPAWA. . ..Waipawa, January 21. A big buslr firo• is' raging near Makaretu, and tho'high wind blowing has enveloped Waipawa in denso smoke. As practically no rain has falleii' sinco'October the country is parchcd, and it. is feared the fire will spread and do considerable damage.
